Growth rate of franchising

Number of franchisee-owned establishments in the Netherlands

The amount of attention franchising receives is higher than ever. The amount of franchisee-owned stores in the Netherlands has tripled over the last 15 years. Franchising is most well known in retail. However, most growth in franchising is currently realized in business-to-business services. With reason as franchising also provides interesting opportunities in this field. Think about morgage-agents, insurance brokers, but also temporary employment agencies and educational institutions.

Publications show that growth is to be expected in the future as well, both in the number of franchisors as well as the number of establishments per franchise. Meanwhile, franchising has also clearly made its entry in health care.

Franchising also provides opportunities internationally with the increasing unification of Europe. Marketing is increasing in importance, competition is increasing, domestically as well as internationally. Customers are ever more critical, capital is harder to get, the importance of scale benefits are increasing. Many organizations are looking for a solution to these challenges. Franchising - as a method of distribution - can prove to be the answer as it provides a range of opportunities.
